Every SCE bill, rebuilt from the tariff. No savings, no fee.
Watt Bounty audits your commercial electric bills line by line against Southern California Edison’s published rate schedules, with specialist depth in NEM-3 solar billing, battery demand charges and rate-schedule fit. You pay only from savings we verify.
- No upfront cost
- No change of utility
- Nothing filed without your approval
Three steps. Only the first one is work for you.
No portal logins, no spreadsheets, no equipment. If there’s nothing to find, you’ll know quickly and it costs you nothing.
Email your bills
Email up to 12 months of SCE bills (PDFs are best) to hello@wattbounty.com. Tell us if the building has solar or a battery.
Get your free quick check
We rebuild each bill from SCE’s tariff and a specialist reviews every flag. You get a short summary of what we found and a rough range of what it’s worth.
We recover and fix it
We file billing disputes, request rate changes in writing and track them until the savings show up on your bills. Our fee comes only from verified savings.
The SCE-specific issues generic bill checks miss
Each check is written against SCE’s own tariff text, so every finding comes with the rule it’s based on and the numbers behind it.
Wrong rate schedule
SCE assigns TOU-GS-1, TOU-GS-2, TOU-GS-3 or TOU-8 by demand, with thresholds at 20, 200 and 500 kW and 3-of-12 and 12-consecutive-month rules. We check your history against them, plus voltage-level discounts and expired legacy options.
A costlier rate option than you need
Option D, Option E and Critical Peak Pricing trade demand charges against energy charges. We shadow-bill every option you qualify for on your own 15-minute data to find the cheapest one.
NEM-3 export credit errors
Under SCE’s Net Billing Tariff, exports earn hourly credits at a price vintage locked for nine years, and those credits can offset only energy charges. We recompute credits, non-bypassable charges and the annual true-up.
Demand charges and battery performance
We recompute facilities-related and time-related demand from interval data, then line up your battery’s dispatch with every peak it should have shaved, including peaks caused by grid charging.
Billing and meter errors
Estimated reads never corrected, billed kWh that don’t match the meter data, meter multiplier mismatches, overlapping billing periods and charges on idle accounts.
Standby, taxes and fees
Schedule S standby charges on solar or storage that should be exempt, power factor charges, and utility users tax billed for the wrong jurisdiction or without an exemption on file.
Deep in the three parts of the SCE bill that are hardest to get right
Most audits check that a bill adds up. Watt Bounty is built around the places where the tariff itself is complicated, and where a mistake repeats every month.
NEM-3 / Net Billing Tariff
Solar sites interconnected since April 2023 get hourly export credits, not retail netting. The math is easy to get wrong and almost impossible to check from the bill alone.
- Export credits priced against the correct locked vintage
- Credits applied only to energy charges, as the tariff requires
- Non-bypassable charges on every imported kWh
- Legacy NEM sites kept on their 20-year transition
Battery demand-charge shaving
A battery only pays off if it’s discharging at the exact 15-minute interval that sets your demand charge. We check whether it was.
- Peak-by-peak review of battery state and dispatch
- Peaks set by grid charging during off-peak hours
- Storage rate options such as TOU-8 Option E
- Standby charge exemptions for storage
Rate-schedule misclassification
When demand crosses an SCE threshold, the tariff says the account moves. When it doesn’t, or moves the wrong way, the cost repeats every month.
- Schedule assignment vs. 3-of-12 and 12-month rules
- Option D vs. E vs. CPP, re-tested after solar or storage
- Voltage level and legacy option expiry
- Refund vs. forward-only, argued correctly
You pay only from money we actually find
Our fee is 40% of the savings verified in the first 12 months. After that, you keep 100%. If we find nothing, you owe nothing.
- Free quick check. No retainer, no setup fee.
- Verified, not projected. We bill on refunds SCE actually issues and lower charges that actually appear on your bills.
- One year only. Our fee stops after the first 12 months of savings.
- Published up front. The percentage and a worked example are right here, before you send us anything.
Detailed terms, including how savings are measured and invoiced, are in the engagement agreement. Read more about pricing.

Your bills are financial records. We’ll treat them that way.
Utility bills show account numbers, addresses and spend. Here’s how we plan to handle them from day one.
Private storage only
Bills you email us will be kept in private, access-controlled storage. No public links, nothing indexed by search engines.
Used only for your audit
Your data is used to audit your accounts. It isn’t sold or shared, and we won’t use it to train public AI models.
Nothing filed without you
We act with SCE only under your written authorization, and nothing goes to SCE without your approval, including anything that could raise a bill.
Limited access
Only named Watt Bounty staff will be able to open your files, using multi-factor authentication.
Evidence you can check
Every finding cites the SCE tariff sheet it relies on and shows the numbers, so you, SCE or anyone you choose can verify it.
Independent
We work for you, not for SCE. Watt Bounty is not affiliated with or endorsed by Southern California Edison.
These are the controls we’re putting in place as we launch. Full details will be in our Privacy Policy.
What does it cost?
Nothing up front, and the quick check is free. If we find savings and you go ahead, our fee is 40% of the savings verified in the first 12 months. If we find nothing, you owe nothing.
Do I need solar or a battery?
No. Any demand-metered SCE commercial account is a good fit. Solar and storage sites are where we go deepest, because NEM-3 export credits and battery demand savings are easy to get wrong and hard to check by hand.
What counts as “savings”?
Only money that shows up: refunds or credits SCE actually issues, and lower charges that actually appear on your bills after a change. For a rate change, we compare what your old rate would have charged for the same usage against what you were actually billed. Projections don’t count.
We buy power from a CCA. Can you still help?
Yes. If you buy generation from a community choice aggregator (for example, Clean Power Alliance), SCE still bills your delivery, demand and customer charges, and we audit those. Generation charges billed under your CCA’s own tariff are outside our current scope, and we’ll say so in your report.
Could an audit increase my bill?
It can happen: an audit occasionally uncovers an undercharge, such as a meter set up wrong in your favor. We screen for this and tell you before anything goes to SCE. Nothing is filed without your written approval.
How far back can refunds go?
Under SCE’s Rule 17, overcharges caused by SCE billing errors can be refunded for the period of the error, up to three years. Choosing a cheaper optional rate only saves money going forward. Tax refunds follow the taxing agency’s rules and can have shorter windows (for example, one year for LA County utility users tax claims).
Is this just AI?
No. Software reads every line of every bill and rebuilds the charges from SCE’s published tariff sheets, so nothing gets skipped. The math is deterministic, not guessed by a language model. A specialist then reviews every finding before it goes to you or to SCE.
